Inconel 600 - High Temperature and Corrosion Resistant Alloy

2023-04-07 05:40:02  Knowledge

A nickel-chromium-iron solid solution strengthened alloy, alloy 600 offers the unique combination of high temperature resistance and corrosion resistance. It is a popular choice for a variety of applications, including heat-treat industry muffles, retorts and furnace fixtures, chemical processing heaters, condensers and trays, and aerospace exhaust liners.

alloy 600 (UNS N06600) has a nominal composition of 72% nickel, 16% chromium and 8% iron. It has excellent oxidation resistance at elevated temperatures and is resistant to chloride stress corrosion cracking.

This alloy is virtually immune to chlorine ion stress corrosion cracking and shows good resistance to organic acids such as acetic, formic and stearic. It also exhibits sufficient corrosion resistance to sulfur compounds, oxidizing chloride environments, reducing and nitriding chlorides and hydrogen sulfidation.

In addition to its corrosion resistance, Inconel 600 has good oxidation and carburisation resistance. It is suitable for use in sulfur compound service at moderate temperatures.

The alloy can be welded and processed by standard shop fabrication practices. It can also be cold worked to improve its mechanical properties and to increase strength.

alloy 600 is available in bar, sheet, tube, strip, plate and wire. It is often fabricated from annealed and stress relieved stock.

It is a very high strength material that can be used for machine parts with a perfect balance of formability and weldability. It is also a lightweight metal that has higher fatigue strength than other stainless steels.

alloy 600 has a high strength to weight ratio. This allows it to be stronger than 6061-grade aluminum but lighter than steel. It is also a high-temperature corrosion and oxidation-resistant alloy that has exceptional thermal conductivity.
