Alloy 600 - High Temperature and Corrosion Resistant Nickel Alloy

2023-03-18 12:20:03  News

alloy 600 is a versatile nickel-chromium-iron alloy that combines high temperature resistance up to 2000degF (1093degC) with excellent corrosion resistance. Its high nickel content makes it virtually immune to chloride-ion stress corrosion cracking and a good choice for applications in which the material will be exposed to oxidizing environments or in corrosive media.

Alloy600 is used for heat treating, chemical and food processing, phenol condensers, soap manufacture, vegetable and fatty acid vessels and many other corrosion resistant applications. It resists a wide range of corrosive media including chlorides, nitric acid, sulfur compounds and sodium hydroxide.

The chromium content in the alloy gives it superior resistance to oxidizing conditions compared to nickel 200 and 201, while the high nickel gives excellent resistance in reducing environments. alloy 600 also provides adequate resistance to sulfur compounds when the service temperatures are moderate and it does not suffer from selective oxidation at room or elevated temperatures in dry HCl or Cl2 gasses.

A low cost, versatile alloy with a long history of use in a variety of engineering applications. It is a standard material of construction for nuclear reactors due to its exceptional corrosion resistance to high purity water.

Inconel 600 is available in pipe, tube, bar, wire, sheet, plate and round bar. It meets or exceeds a number of industry standards such as ASTM, ASME, SAE, BS, DIN, ISO, QQ and MIL-DTL.

It is not an age hardening alloy and must be cold formed using typical processes such as bending, welding and punching. It is recommended that hot working should not be performed between 1600degF and 2250degF, since this temperature range reduces the ductility of the alloy.
